Update: Well, the fear of fin rot seems to be the reality of things. His "normal" large, circular pectoral fins are now long, skinny, rectangular fins. Parts of his fins are entirely gone. It isn't horrible and the parts missing are "clean cut". I'll be putting him in the "hospital tank" for awhile while cleaning his tank every 2-3 days and giving him an aquarium salt treatment.
