Fin rot & Triple sulfa

I am currently treating a betta w/fin rot (black, ragged fins). Marcyn II & salt treatments failed so I tried API Triple sulfa. I am on a second course (8days of treatment & the fins seem to be getting SLOWLY better, but still black & no regrowth yet. Does anyone know how long it is safe to con't treating w/the sulfa? I don't want to overdose little Oscar. Thanx in advance!

Here is some further info. Also, i took your advice changed 100% water & cleaned all decor & gravel before staring this latest treatment. Two days ago he bit off half his caudal fin! He's never done that before. Don't know if its stress from treatment or i recently moved him to a more trafficked area.

Housing
What size is your tank? 5g
What temperature is your tank? 79 - 80
Does your tank have a filter? Yes, but it is not cycled yet.
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? Just filter
Is your tank heated? Yes
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? None

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Omega One pellets & blood worms
How often do you feed your betta fish? 2x/day (3 pellets total)

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? Every other day while sick
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 25 - 50%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Prime water conditioner

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?

Ammonia: 0 - .25ppm (I chg water if any ammonia shows)
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: <20ppm
pH: 7.4
Hardness:
Alkalinity:

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Black ragged fins
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
When did you start noticing the symptoms? 1 1/2 months ago
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? Marcyn II, salt(10days), Triple sulfa (10days, so far)
Does your fish have any history of being ill? Had fin rot once before, Marcyn worked on that.
How old is your fish (approximately)? Got him in Oct, 2012, don't know how old.

Since he's gotten fin rot he is not fit to continue to use to cycle.

Also you should know that the meds you are using have completely reset your cycle so you will have to start over once he's well..

But in the meantime twice weekly 50% and 100% will keep his water clean enough.

I would treat a minimum of one full week and reevaluate if he needs a second.
