29 gallon bulb?

I want to turn my 29gallon sorority into a planted tank, was going to be a summer project. But after reading a few things, it seems like the proper bulb size for my hood might be a little hard....

I got the 29gallon Aqua-Tech start kit for walmart (was a steal at $75!!), but the bulb is only..I have no idea. Doesnt say on the box, and there are no markings on teh bulb, just says 'flourescent bulb' =/

So am I better off trying to get a clear lid for the 29g and get some sort of long light/lamp if I want to grow more than hornwart? Which is the only plant that's survived in there, and just barely.

Or should I be considering a planted set up in an entirely different tank?

Is it a regular 2 pin florescent light bulb...if so, you can find the proper color temp florescent bulb in the lighting dept at either wal mart, home depot, lowes and for a lot cheaper than in a aquarium shop.

I get the GE "Daylight" 6500k bulbs for my planted tanks-the watts vary based on length of the bulb-but for 29gal-I would use either 2-20w or 1-40w..depends on what your light strip is rated for too.

Florescent light intensity is lost over time and they need to be changed out every 6-12mo-I change mine every 12 months. The color temp will change over time-the light will still work-but not for live plants after a year and you will start to see poor growth, death and algae problems.

Ahh~ okay, thanks OFL! I think my hood inly takes one, so I'll browse at work today and see what I can find =)
