CT needs softer water with neutral pH, while other types can tolerate harder water with higher or lower pH. Water prams take effect mainly when bettas are older. It doesn't really show when young.
Since combtails only have slight protruding rays, It's safe to keep them like other types. But perfect water prams (if at all possible) is always best.
