Are plastic bags plastic bags?

I figured I'd ask the breeders...
I need to transfer 9 female bettas from their QT tanks in their new 29 gal. I bought a piece of equipment called an "acclimator". When I brought it home & read the instructions, I discovered it uses the "plastic bag you brought your fish home from the pet store". Aaaarrggg I don't HAVE any fish plastic bags! I have zip-lock bags, plastic food storage bags- are these OK to use??? Is there something about those bags from the fish store?

I use zip lock bags all the time, but not an "acclimator". To be honest the idea is really questionable, if you were to use the plastic bags from the store it would compleatly defeat the purpose of quarentine (you would introduce any disease on the bag).

If the temp is the same and the water is the same you really don't need to acclimate fish to move from from one tank in your house to another... presumably the conditions are already very similar.

Drip acclimating is useful for new fish to slowly introduce them to your water if it's different from what they came in (I always test mine just so I know what they were in).

Anything safe for food should be safe for fish.
