Question Now hes not eating

I got my sister a Betta 2 days ago and he still hasn't eaten anything. I have him in a 1 gallon with filter and heater. He was swimming around the first day but now he hides in his moon rock and won't come out to do anything. I gave him pellets and flakes. What else should I do?

I don't have a test kit yet. I think that too. I just want to make sure I'm trying everything.

IMO 75 is too cold, 76 is the absolute minimum for a Betta fish.
How about the filter flow? Is it very strong? He could be hiding because he can't swim well. I had the happen to my very first Betta many, many years ago when I was a teenager and didn't really know how to care properly for Bettas. I had him in a 1 gallon tank with a filter with a very heavy flow, and he hid behind it all the time, and actually stayed in that corner until the day he died many months later.

I turned up the heat to 80 and lower the bubble flow last night. I'm about to go check on him and hopefully he will eat this morning.

I'm glad he ate something. It sounds like he needed to be a bit warmer & less of a water current. I've seen people on here say that bettas need a filter, but I would never put any kind of filter or bubbler in anything less than 5 gallons personally.

My boy is in a 2.5 gallon tank with just a heater & he's very happy. I do two 100% changes a week & float some anacharis at the top that he likes to rest his head on.
