thanks juditko i'll be getting some today!!
aokashi i'm not entirely sure if a sink plug would fit.. maybe a small one.

now that i have this figured out i just want hector to stop being stressed out so he'll eat.

mount a mesh over the lid and use rubber bands or binder clips to hold it in place. you can get that at Michael's or JoAnn Fabric, or any craft store for $1.50/yd or so. dab off the condensation on the lid every so often if you like.
