Hello :) first post

Hello :)

I have been stalking your wonderful forum for a few days now and decided that it seemed like a great community to join!

I am new to Betta's, I have always been intrigued by them but never had much luck with fish in the past so it scared me off.
I somewhat recently finished a certificate in animal care and really enjoyed the fish care modules. In line with my graduation I started working in a pet store. They sell fish and hermit crabs and take really great care of them :) The majority of the store is pet food, toys etc.
The company offers ongoing training through their own online training courses so between more research and being surrounded by fish everyday I decided to adopt a betta!

The first little guy was already not 100% but I fell for him and took him home. I think the shock killed him (he died the following day) He was a really small crown tail we named Ryu (RIP)
I was quickly addicted these little guys so took home an active, healthy looking VT :)
His name is Murphy (sea warrior) and he has an excellent appetite and is always swimming around and is very interactive and playful!
I am so in love!
He did panic in the new tank (9 lt filtered) so I moved him in to large plastic tub and he perked right back up. So he is living in the tub while I slowly raise the water level and he settles in to a routine.

I was just hoping some one could please let me know if his fins are okay?
They seem to be almost stuck together at the ends?
I'm hoping all the TLC will have him really shining soon.

Welcome & congrats on the new boy. His fins should not be clamped up like that on the ends; its not uncommon for there to be fin problems with a Betta that was housed in a litttle cup. He should blossom well with TLC, keep his water warm, conditioned & clean & you should see improvements relatively quickly.

Welcome to the forum! His "sticky fins" are most likely caused by poor water quality! Keep his water clean and warm, and feeding him a good quality, high protein diet, should have him shining like new in no time!

Thanks for the welcomes and information :)

This is his 6th day at home and he arrived with his fins like that. I have been doing water changes daily (in his tub and waiting tank) and using water conditioner :) the plastic looks a little hazy but to look in from above the water is really clear. He has been making bubble nests :)
He is eating Hikari betta bio gold and seems to have a great appetite so I'm hoping he really starts to sparkle soon and show off his gorgeous red fins!
Oh and water is warm, Australian summer time currently.

Also I just wanted to add that the store he came from (where I now work) has a pretty great Betta set up (I'll post a pic when I can) They have small (not ideal but better than cups) glass jars with 3 rows and a filtering system and led lighting. They are very well taken care of, especially when comparing it to other pet stores.
