Concerning temperature jump?

So last night I adjusted my heater to go up to 79 degrees. (Had to actually turn it up to about 84? I've had this heater for over a month now while my tanks been working to cycle for Niklaus' arrival. (Which should be tomorrow! Of course I would notice this now. D: )

I just looked at the temperature and it had plummeted to about 69??? Is my heater malfunctioning? I'm not understanding why it's doing that. Should I go buy another one and replace it? (Oh joy, a 6 mile walk. D; )

He gets here tomorrow and I don't want to have him have to deal with such huuuuge changes in temperature.

I'm probably just going to go purchase a new one; will anyone tell me what kind I should get, that will be more reliable? Going to hit Petco.

If the heater is set on 84F & the temp is 69F its either your thermometer that's off or the heater is a dud. I like the Aqueon heaters, they're completely submersible so you can position it however you need to in the tank. Do NOT buy the Petco brand heater, the decal flakes off & they make a popping noise sometimes that's annoying.

I was looking at the ratings and comments on the heaters online, and I think I'll probably go with Aqueon Pro Submersible. I'm 98% sure it's the heater, I once forgot about the whole temperature thing and grabbed the body to move it and it wasn't even hot, while set at 78. Haha. Should have been my warning.

I just don't want my little guy to suffer, let alone potentially be shocked to death. So time to use my feet.
