Id' be careful about topfin.. you get what you pay for. They tend to fail and several of them have been known to leach plastics that severely injure and even kill bettas.

You can get the Marineland for that too if you buy online: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...m?pcatid=21322

25 watt in a 2.5

My Hydor Theo 25 watt works fine in my 3 gallon, and worked just great in a one gallon before that.

Calibrate!

The only two brands I would avoid are TopFin and Marineland. I hear too many horror and/or failure stories with these brands. I'm using a Hagen 25W and it's perfect. But whatever brand you get just make sure it's temp adjustable. Don't waste money on those "preset temp" heaters....garbage!

I've never had any issues with my Top Fin heaters. The only problem I've had which wasn't even a problem was that it gave off a strong rubber smell once I used it. It went away with a few days or use and constant water changes and scrubbing. It works as it should and heats the entire tank.

I have a 50w EHEIM Jager and am very impressed with how tightly it controls the temperature. I can look at the temp any time of the day and it's always EXACTLY where I set it.

They make a 25w version too.
