Thread in gills?

My silly crowntail, Drago, has managed to get a piece of thread from one of his silk plants threaded through his gills... It's a very tiny piece of thread, but it seems to go right through from one side to the other. It doesn't seem to be hindering him at all, he is still swimming around and acting normal, and his gills still look to be functioning normally, but I was curious what you all thought I should do (if anything)?

What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 1 - 50% and 1 - 100%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Prime

Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters? Haven't tested, but I can. Today was water change day, so he has 100% fresh, conditioned water.

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? He has a thread through his gills.
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? It hasn't
When did you start noticing the symptoms? Today after putting him back in the tank following his 100% water change.
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? No
Does your fish have any history of being ill? Minor bloat issues (those seem to be fairly common with crowntails)
How old is your fish (approximately)? Unknown (petstore fish). I've had him for about 9 months.

I wouldn't pull it out. He will probably move it or absorb it on his own.

Ah, okay. So you don't think it's an issue, really? It's funny how he found the ONE thread I missed. I always make sure to look for the threads when doing water changes because I know silk plants like to leave threads floating sometimes lol.

Removing it yourself could potentially do more damage than his body taking care of it.

I've noticed that bettas have a knack for finding the one fine detail that we humans miss... they're worse than toddlers!
