I think it's more of if the fish are experiencing a lot of stress they become weakened and the parasite seizes on the chance. The cause itself is already there...it just needs the conditions.

Hey Everyone... I am happy to announce I have healthy fish again.
Zohan is showing all his colors and has again noticed Maria on the other side of the seperator. Oh is he excited, flaring at her and swimming up and down along the seperator... and spot (the dalmation) is happy happy. We are all happy and healthy again. and the ICK is GONE!! Thanks to everyone who helped out. I gave them the last dose of medication this morning and will be putting a proper filter back in tomorrow. Happy Happy day!!

Thanks again.... Something else I found out is that when I got the 10 gal tank there were only 2 fish in it. I decided that wasn't enough and purchased more fish to go in there... Apparently this stressed out the tank and the fish and allowed the ICK to present it self

Get some quick cure from a local wal mart it can cure this
