Two females in a divided 10gal?

I would really love two more females, a crowntail and a halfmoon, and was wondering if 2 girls could be housed in a divided 10gal. tank? I'm not yet comfortable with a sorority, and I know two males can share a divided tank, but I haven't seen anything about girls sharing a tank. Is there a reason for that?

I think the reason you haven't seen much about it is that most people go for sororities when thinking about multiple females.

I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work.

I think its totally fine! Females are sometimes better at jumping and may try and jump to other side which could not end up well... so just make sure you have a good divider

I dont see why it wouldn't work. Just make sure you have a lid or something so they can't jump into the other side.

Tracy, that is extremely risky. Bettas are unpredictable little fish and can turn on each other, even after months of apparently being best pals - part of what makes sororities risky. In pairs, they have no hierarchy, and 5 gallons does not allow room for territorial dispute, so a fight in a tank that small could easily end in death.

Perfectly fine to keep girls in a divided tank :) Definately make sure that you have a really good divider (a double divider would probably be better than a single one), though - one of my girls is easily able to get a good two or more inches of air when she feels like jumping (which is very often)!

What are some suitable materials for making my own divider? I have an idea for one with a ledge at the top that would angle back down towards each side of the tank. That way if a fish should try to jump, she would land on the ledge and slide back down into the water.

Craft mesh is what most members use, as it allows water flow. :)
