Not interested in pellets?

I just got a male betta (finally got brave after I lost my Petco baby) and although he is definitely interested in food, he won't eat the API betta food I have. He sucks it in, spits it out, keeps repeating until he gives up on it. Any suggestions? He's only been here a day, but he has to eat eventually, right?!

It could be that the pellets are too large for him to swallow - have you tried crushing them? :) It sounds like he is definitely trying to eat them.

A trick to make picky eaters interested is to soak the food in garlic juice.

What are the first three ingredients of the API?

Best of luck with your new fish. :)

I have 3 Bettas, and they all have their own preferences. As Bombarlurina suggested, soak the food first, if you don't have garlic juice handy, try just a little water to soften it. My HMPK Dragon only wants to to eat frozen bloodworms or mysis. To get him to eat pellets ( I use NLS and Omega 1) I soak the pellet for a few minutes in the water from the thawed worms/mysis. He's beginning to eat at least one if he's hungry. Sometimes when they are still a little stressed or unfamiliar with your food, they will do that.
