Aggression is also sometimes required in courtship. It seems the more abuse dished out, the better the spawns tend to be.

If bettas are cats then goldfish are definitely dogs; loving, affectionate, crawling out of the water to see you, squishing themselves into your hand and covering your arm with kisses.

Plakat were the original selective bred betta, and they never came in those colors, they were bred to fight.

Just selectively breeding for specific traits over a period of time. Similar to how new traits such as the bigger pectorals are bred for now.

Someone needs to publish a comprehensive walkthrough of betta breeding history.

---------------------

On a curious note, anyone have any interesting tidbits on their betta reacting to music?

Eranikus, my green dragonscale, likes bass and feel pumped enough to antagonize his reflection for longer periods of time. Or he may just get a headache from the vibrations - not entirely sure.

Phycondrias (S.I.P.) actually did zoomies and danced to Lady Gaga's & Beyonce's Telephone. Like hard core sass. Including flaring at me then going back to dancing.

I've heard some random stories over the interwebs of some owners claiming their little companion was totally a metalhead.

So, anyone noticed anything?

People tend to see themselves in their animals.

I'm convinced that's the reason both my dogs can't/won't swim.. because I can't.
