I've been very sick for the past week, so my husband has been feeding my fish every day for me, so it's been several days since I've actually seen Wheatley up close. I just went to go feed him now that I'm feeling better, and I saw *this:
I've never seen his poor, beautiful tail and fins look like this before! His tail is normally much longer than that! Is he sick? What can I do to help him?
Here is his info:
What size is your tank?
2.5 gallons. His plants are all soft with no wires, minus the hammock shown, which he doesn't use.
What temperature is your tank?
Does your tank have a filter?
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration?
Is your tank heated?
What tank mates does your betta fish live with?
What type of food do you feed your betta fish?
Bio Gold pellets: 4 per meal.
How often do you feed your betta fish?
Twice a day.
How often do you perform a water change?
Every other week - the filter keeps it very clean and he never drops his food.
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change?
50%. I've tried doing 25% changes, but even the small hose I has sucks out too much too quickly if I want to clean the gravel thoroughly.
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change?
A teaspoon of aquarium salts and Aqueon Betta Bowl Plus (a water conditioner)
Have you tested your water?
Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?
His tail is shorter and appears shredded.
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
Not at all. He is still active and seems happy.
When did you start noticing the symptoms?
A few minutes ago.
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
Nothing, I'm very inexperienced and don't want to try anything without getting the best information I can first.
Does your fish have any history of being ill?
How old is your fish (approximately)?
I have no idea. The pet store I bought him from didn't have that information.
*The pinkish red face is normal; he's looked like that since I got him (his head is semi-transparent and you can see his brain, so that's why it looks pink).
