proper care for fin rot?

so my betta Mardi has fin rot he is in a 5g tank and since you should change the water 100% daily would it be ok to put him in a heated 1g with aq salts until his fins start to show signs of regrowth or should I just leave him in the 5g and do 25-50% water changes daily also if the aq salts don't work what is the brand of medication do you recommend?

Unless you have snails in the 5g I'd leave him in it. Do you know what caused the fin rot? I won't suggest a med because I have little experience with them.

he doesn't have any tankmates but I already put him in the 1g because he is my first betta so I just wanted to be precautious.. while I was changing my other bettas water I put him in a little cup during the cleaning he was really stressed so I put a plant in not realizing it was plastic then he freaked out and got a few cuts from the plant I immeaditly removed the plant I think he will be fine but I put aq salt in so that he wouldn't get an infection from his new driftwood do you think he'll be ok he just has a few scales that came off

Honestly, you may as well leave him in the 5 gallon. The water will stay cleaner and the temperature will be more stable, due to the larger volume of water, and that's what he needs right now. Bettas are hardy little fish and he will recover just fine with warm, clean water. Salt's an added bonus. :)

For the 5 gallon, just a 25-50% daily. This will be less stressful for him than the larger changes you'd have to do in the 1 gallon. :)

Is the 5g tank completely cycled? If so & you know the water parameters (ammonia/nitrites/nitrates) are good then you can do your regular water changes. If you'd feel better you can do one every 2-3 days for awhile. Remember to only replace the amount of Aq salt for the amount of water removed not the full 5g.

I would seriously suggest leaving him in the 5 gallon for a while. I mean, he seems thoroughly stressed and I would suggest lowering the water line so he can avoid having to swim far up for air
