Exclamation Thinking about breeding my DT Male Betta

Hey everyone, im thinking about breeding my male betta and I was wondering if you could give me your ideas. Im very new at this.

Heres two links to my boys picture! :) Does he look like he would have good genetics?

I haven't got him to flare yet, but if you need a "Flare" Picture I can see what I can do.

I was wondering what color female would look good with him and what Breed of female should I get? This really helps! Thanks!

Looks like you got double tails, Petco finds?

Well, when you say breed (of female) I am guessing you are meaning tail type? Different tails doesn't equal to different breeds.. same breed/species, just different fins.

I would research more into breeding.. make sure you understand it can range in the thousands of costs to start breeding (depending on how big you go, minimum is hundreds to start up), hours a day is needed on water changes, etc. Make sure you have a way to separate and warm up lots of individual jars. Also make sure you know how to sell, where to sell, ship, etc. Lots and lots of work.

This would be a good starter fish to either improve the line over the next couple of years or to see if you can breed before spending lots of money on breeding quality fish.

Can't see them well enough to tell you the flaws and what to look for in a female to help correct the male's flaws. So will need a side view of them flaring. I haven't worked with DTs yet, I have one that I intended to breed, but he ended up with a bit too much red for my taste and most likely will end up finding a new home. Oldfishlady breeds DTs, she may be able to help you more.. DT is a deformity in a sense and it's a tricky gene to play with. So would do lots of research and understand the gene and such before breeding them.

Need side flaring pictures.
But since he is a DT, in general it is best to pair him to a HM female.

Yes, will have to.. I just recently culled my 550 fry down to 60-100 fry, and will cull again once they are a bit bigger.

Uh huh! I did it when transferring them over to the 29gs.. I figured it was my one and only chance to count that many with little error (count as I put in cups, etc) lol.
