Possible velvet?

I bought a pretty Crowntail boy 2 days ago and as I was taking some pictures tonight with a flash I noticed that a good portion of him seems to be covered in gold O_O I'm hoping that it isn't velvet but I figured I would ask you guys. He's currently in a 1 Gallon QT tank and I don't want to move him to the 10 Gallon I bought him tonight until I hear what you think =] He does wiggle around on his plants quite a bit but he's proving to be a quirky little dude so I just thought he was being weird lol. He would probably eat all day if I let him so no loss of appetite and he isn't clamping his fins =\

This was him the night I got him after he first went in the tank

This is him tonight with no flash

And finally with flash

Any help is quite welcome, and thanks in advance.

wait for other people advice but to me he don't look like he has velvet. Still hold on and quarantine him any way. I think it very good idea to quarantine new fish even if it look healthy, especially if you have another fish. If he has velvet it will progress pretty fast though .
Are you going to cycle 10 gallons before you put him in or you will cycle with him in the tank? Or you not cycling your tank? Very beautiful betta.

That is not velvet. Velvet looks like gold 'dust' or grey specks. Also in a fish with velvet they are usually clamped, lethargic, may scratch themselves raw trying to get rid of the irritation and will usually go off their food.

That is his natural colouration.

Thanks for the speedy responses guys!! You've put my mind at ease. I plan to cycle the tank with him in it and just keep an eye on the water parameters.

very good advice on fish-in cycling and water changes after that, and filter media care.
