Fasting

I would like to know how many of you betta owners out there fast your bettas once a week. I have never done it but I'm thinking about it. I've heard that its good to do to clear out their digestive tracts.

hey hey. Well im gonna do it,as well you know i think he ate too much the other day. It doesnt hurt em none. I read in my many fish books i have now lol that they can go without food for up to two weeks. Not that we should ever do that, but they can. So like a 1 day fast wont hurt em at all. Plus when your are cycling (i know your not,but jsut saying with bettas or any other fish) if your ammonia is high ya dont feed em till it gets to a low safe-ish level. So ya its a good thing to do,from what i read lol. Im sure others will have opinions on it too. Since im a noob and all.

yeah, they say to feed minimally while cycling. I want to get everyone's thoughts before I start doing it. I kind of feel like I'm depriving them if I don't feed them.lol I mean, I know that its ok but the way they look at you like "wheres my dinner?"It makes me feel bad. lol

I've read that you should skip feeding your fish for a day, once a week...
I haven't done it yet, I want to read more about it...
Anyone have any pointers?

I remember when they were selling bettas in vases and reccommended one pellet a day, to keep the water clean. I too was told to fast all my fish for one day, lacking the self bontrol i opted on healthy small feedings. Pinch of flake in the morning, veg/algea wafer afternoon and blood worms or shrimp QOD.This is for all my fish.

There is nothing wrong with fasting them once a week however this may not be applicable to juveniles as they need food in order to grow. Adults should be fine.
