What a difference a little warm, clean water makes.
Two weeks ago, I went to Petsmart. The heat wasn't working, and the store manager said it wasn't even 60F in there. I saw a pale gray betta, sitting clamped in a cup. Petsmart was having a sale, and all the other 'HMs' had been sold already. So his cup was the only one left on the shelf. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of him then - but he was a dull, pale gray, with 'muddy' looking colors in his fins. And it didn't look like anyone wanted such a 'dull' fish. So I decided to "rescue" him.
Here he is, acclimating in his cup. I went slowly, since it had been so cold in the store.... After a few hours, his color started to change dramatically! Hints of turquoise? Who knew! I was surprised that he wasn't actually pale gray!
And here he is today:
