Female betta displaying egg bands with no male present

I have a female VT I got last weekend. She can see no males, but every time I turn around she's displaying the vertical bar I call egg bands. What is going on with her? Do I need to watch and make sure she doesn't get egg bound or is there something else I should do for her?

This is the female in question, she gets darker than in the last pic. It's just the only one I have showing the bands I'm talking about.

Perhaps she's seeing a reflection and believing it to be male?

Vertical bars don't always mean that they are ready to spawn. They can also be an indication of dominance/submission. Some of my males will display vertical barring, particularly the younger ones.

Some of my girls will get so dark and have very visible bands when I just feed them. They communicate in many ways, and those bars mean lots of different things :)

Ok, thank all of you. That's what it is than. I have all my girls close together so they can get used to the site of each other for when I put my sorority together. She must just be telling the others she's boss the only way she can right now. Thank you again, I just wanted to make sure she was going to be ok. I'm sure I still have a lot more first with my bettas, but this was the first time I've seen the bars in that situation.

My female gets the vertical stripes almost every time I feed her. I think it just happens when she gets excited. hehe
