Is this Heater Reliable?

Hello I just recently got a new heater yesterday and was not home to check if it worked. It does not have a light and the temperature of the water is at 76.

On the package it said it would get up to 78. In the past when I didn't have the heater the water was at 76. What do you think? Here is a pic of it

The reviews for that one (Tetra Submersible Heater) are pretty mixed.

I imagine yours is working, but that the thermostat is miscalibrated (very common issue for preset heaters), or that your room temperature is too low and the heater can't produce enough energy to heat the water high enough.

I use an EHEIM Jager and it's great because you can calibrate the thermostat on it for pinpoint accuracy. Very tight temperature control as well...

Its a Tetra Submersible Heater and I got it from Walmart, which I'm scared this one might be a broken one that someone returned

It's wierd. I had it in my five gallon and it stayed at 76. I eventually moved it to my six gallon and it stays at 78 now.

It does have a light. It switches from green to red. It's very tiny and not too bright. Turn the heater and you should be able to find it.

Which side would it be on? I'm searching for it no sign of it and on the instructions it said some of them have it and some don't

The opposite side of where the wire enters the top. Take a look with the lights off. Mine is very dim but it's there.

Yeah I agree since I also had this heater and there should be a working light on it that comes on when its heating the water. Mine worked fine for a couple of months and after that wasnt really keeping the water at 78 so I ordered and Elite 50 watt adjustable for my 5 gallon and it works great !

The heater only heats the water to the temp you originally is when you put it in.

So if you put in 78 water, its mostly stays 78 in the tank....

Well thats what its like in my ten gallon... plus the bulbs help it not work so hard.
