Fasting Question.

So I have been reading on here and noticed alot of people fast their fish once a week? Is that a common practice for betta fish?

I believe it is. But if you think about it this way: animals in the wild don't eat every day because sometimes they can't find food, so I feel that it is natural for them to skip a day or two. But it also helps in flushing out their system so to say to keep them from being bloated by eating too much. Does this make sense?

Yes, some do some don't. I do myself, the purpose is to clear their insides out so there won't be a blockage anytime soon and they can start out fresh.
