Unhappy Possible Dropsy or over/under feeding?

So I went to my friends house this weekend. A few weeks previous I thought my Betta's belly looked a bit bigger. After a few weeks it seemed not to change so I dismissed it. Now when I got home his belly looks bigger, but not round. It looks like the area behind his head is only slightly distended out. Is this because of his change in diet or could he have ... dropsy?

His belly looks a bit like this. http://s4.hubimg.com/u/222575_f520.jpg

He is acting and eating normally.

remember- raised scales indicate dropsy. also, are you feeding him live foods? that's how all bettas (i've heard) get the disease.

No raised scales that I see. I haven't fed him any live foods either. I'm going to try fasting him tomorrow then lessening his diet to see if he gets better.

While dropsy can sometimes be spotted before the scales become raised it does not sound like drospy. The kidney failure would swell the entire body and not be localized in the stomach region. It sounds like constipation is a possibility. Have you seen him poo lately? If not I would recommend fasting him a few days and then offering some juicy frozen food to help move things along. Another thing I have seen is a tumor that grows in the stomach area but this is less common.

Frozen daphnia works wonders for cleaning out their systems... That's what I feed my guys if they r slightly bloated (daphnia works as a sort of laxative) I also feed the daphnia the day before their fast day... My guy Dijon absolutely LOVES his daphnia! :)
