Red face Doing Some Research For 10 Gallon Tanks...

Hi everyone! I just had some questions about maybe starting up a ten gallon tank and getting some fish to put with our bettas.

One of our local pet-stores is having a closing sale and we're for sure planning to get some five gallon aquariums for our bettas that are currently in one gallon tanks.

My mother and I were curious about getting a ten gallon tank and what kind of fish we would put in it. We've being doing research on sorority tanks as well. We're not sure if we're going to get one, but maybe this could also be for future reference if we do. :)

If we were to get a sorority, I've heard that the good numbers would be 4-6 female bettas. Is this the correct amount? And is that too many for a ten gallon? I've heard it's not, but I just want to make sure, because if we did get a ten gallon tank sorority, we'd like to put other fish in, and we're not sure how many is too many.

Right now we have some catfish we could add or not. We're interested in white cloud fish and mollies. Would mollies be too flashy for the Betta to get along with? Specifically dalmatian mollies? I've heard yes and no to this question and I'm a bit stumped... :/

Anyway, what do you all think? Should the tank be bigger? What amounts of fish can be put in a ten gallon? And are they're any other kinds of fish that would go well with bettas for community aquariums?

Please and Thank You for the help. :D

I was given a link to this site today and I've been planning new tanks for hours now!

http://www.aqadvisor.com/

You just choose your tank size, what filter you have, and add from the list of species all the inhabitants you think you want and it'll spit out a percentage of how stocked your tank is.

I'm new to sororities and I don't know much about compatibility, but I do know that you're not going to be able to fit a whole lot in that 10 gallon if you're going to go sorority. Female bettas need to be in groups of 4-6+ AND introduced to the new tank at the same time so a hierarchy can be established.

Also make sure you have lots of silk plants for them to hide in, tall ones as well as short ones because I've heard that when bettas chase and try to fight, it's mostly at the surface. Anything you can do to break their line of site will stop a chase and potentially save your fish a lot of stress.

My larger tank, which I concentrated on plantings, just has Neon Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras, and Zebra Danios. They all get along fantastically!!

I am planning on doing 5 or 6 females in a 10 gallon tank. According to AqAdvisor it says 7 females would have my tank at 93% stocked but 8 would definitely put it over at 101%. I am new to sororities too. As far as I understand the more females you have the more spread out the chasing and fin nipping would be in the beginning. It has definitely been a lot of fun planning the sorority tank (I hope to have mine stocked in June) I am interested in other stocking options for a 10 gallon too. I am thinking of getting another 10 gallon soon.
