fin rot

Hi my betta fish has fin rot it just started, so i started treating it. and im wundering what aquarium salt does so if anyone can tall me that would be great thanks.

aquarium salt, from my understanding, adds necessary electrolytes to the water. Also, it slightly irritates the fish into building up a stronger slime coat to better protect it against diseases. In addition, the salt promotes healing (as you may know from saline and even sailors who used to heal their cuts by dipping their hands into the salty ocean.)
