Thank you Sakura8.

I have Nox isolated and been doing waterchanges, he seems a little more lively, actually swimming a bit and looking like he is a bit more interested in food, but only just on day 3 so will see how he is. He is still breathing hard but I don't know if it is because of the salt or if there is still parasites or what..

Alright I will look at possibly treating the pandas. I was just wondering about the snail cause it was in with him when he started acting odd, but he had been in with the snail before that and hadn't had any issues.

I will let you guys know when his salt treatment is up if he is seeming better or not.. I'm hopeful though cause he is acutally moving rather than sitting like a lump glued to the top of the water..

So Nox seemed to be getting a bit better, but recently has had little whiteish grey spots appear over his head/neck region and he has paled slightly in colour. I am suspecting that it is external (maybe internal still?) parasites, and have done the following.

Raised the temperature in the 5 gallon tank to 85F
Added 3 tsps of aquarium salt per gallon
Been doing daily water changes and scrubbing everything in the tank under hot water daily

Is there anything else that I can be doing to help him out? I am doing the whole tank just incase cause I have another betta in there and wanted to be safe.

He seems to be a little on the lethargic side but is still quite happy to eat. I have been checking him carefully for any sign of swelling of the eyes or his scales raising at all but he seems fine other than the paleness, little white/grey spots and being lethargic

Any help would be really appreciated. I feel bad for my poor little guy, still not feeling 100%...

Hi SilverTail. What you're doing is really one of the best ways to deal with external parasites and I can't recommend anything else right now. You can continue with this treatment for up to 14 days maximum but I would say if the spots haven't changed by a week's worth of treatment, it's possible they are a natural part of him.

Thanks Sakura, I am glad to hear I am doing the right thing at least. He seems a little more chipper (he has only been on salt for 3 days now) but I will see how he is doing later in the week with the continued changes. I will keep a close eye on him and if things change I will let you guys know ^^ Poor little Nox XD he is a real trooper going through all this...

The spots seem to be getting better, but he has been sorta floating at an angle recently, and today was nearly on his side near the top of the tank. He is breathing a bit heavy but otherwise doesn't seem to be in too much discomfort. Any thought on why he might be doing that?

The higher temps could be causing him to breathe a bit heavier, as there is less oxygen in warm water. The floating thing is a bit worrisome. :/ Some external parasites can go internal and do damage inside or they can leave open wounds that get infected with bacteria. Fortunately the salt should help protect against that.

With floating, often there's just no real way to tell what could be causing it without a lab test of some sort. :(
