Neptune Update

We started Neptune's fin rot treatment yesterday. It was amazing how fast the darned thing spread from his dorsal fin to his body. Though he was cheerful and swimming around, we had to take action much against the advice of the so called 'professionals' at Petco (they suck!!). They know nothing of how to care for animals and what advice to give!!

DAY 1:
Anyways, we cleaned his bowl, added betta water and administered MARACYN-TC & MARACYN-2. We left only a minimal of gravel and removed the other stuff so he could have more space to move. We left the plants coz he really likes them. We also added aquarium salt to his water.


DAY 2:
Seeing him today, it feels the further advent of fin rot has been arrested. No signs of recovery as yet. Neptune continues to remain sprightly nonetheless. One helluva fighter!
Got the second dose of the medicines into his bowl. No water change, so lets see how he does.

Day 3:
Neptune seems to be holding up, though his moving around the bowl has reduced, possibly due to the effect of the meds. He's one heck of a socializer and if any one of us come near his bowl, he's all flashy and ready to talk. The clumping of fins has eased a bit, so that's a good sign!

My wife gets special attention from him and he's ready to listen to whatever she says. Just this morning, she asked him to turn sideways and show her his fins and he actually did!!

I guess the rot has been arrested though we still kick ourselves for listening to the Petco nitwit team leader and delaying his meds. He would have been in better shape, if only...

We have started feeding him 2 pellets daily as against 4 every other day. The pellets are gone in less that 10 seconds, so he's good there. Judging from the slow recovery, my guess is he'll have to be on for at least 3 weeks as opposed to the original 1 week.

I am glad to hear he is doiing good.
But try feeding him 2 pellets 2 times a day..

thanks crowntail lover! I was just concerned that overfeeding him at this stage might do him more harm than good, given his rather precarious condition. I also have freeze dried blood worms and did not know if this is a good time to introduce him to those now?

I don't see why you couldn't offer him a bloodworm or two. It might help his recovery to have something to look forward to. lol They do act like they understand us sometimes. lol

Oh those are great!!! Packed with protein!!!
But only give it to him as a treat...twice a week..
And 4 pellets a day is not overfeeding...:]
I give all of mine 8 a day...:]

whoa! And that means I've probably been underfeeding the poor dude. Which is probably why the pellets are Gone in 2 Seconds. Will try the bloodworms tomorrow. I just fear he may lose his appetite for pellets thereafter :( After all which kid prefers brocolli over ice cream?

I feed mine 2 pellets twice a day. That is what most of us feed.
