Walmart has a 10 gallon for $13, it doesnt have a hood or anything though. They're more expensive with those.

2.5 gallon is perfect for one betta. Just don't overcrowd it with decorations.

well there is a 2.5 gallon tank there that has a filer and everything. i have two questions.... how do you know if your betta has finrot and the tank comes with fish food, but it doesn't state which kind... would my betta die if i fed it goldfish food or the food the tank comes with for a day until i buy some proper betta food?

I don't think it would die, but pellets are the best. They're cheap too. Wardley's betta pellets are like $3 at walmart and it comes with a whole bunch. All my bettas eat those.
The 2.5 gallon sounds fine.
And if he has finrot, his fins will curl, fall off in small pieces and start to get holes in them.
