The ammonia matched the color of the 0 ppm, as did the nitrates.

I'm guessing it was the Melafix, even though I just did a half dose for 2-3 days to clear up the cloudy eye.
It was nitrite that you wanted me test for wasn't it? I lost my internet connection yesterday.

Well, because the tea tree oil coats the labyrinth it can affect some but not all fish. Some fish are so sensitive to changes in the water, which includes using salt, some meds, and some enhancers (PH balance, AmmoLock (pointless junk), etc.). Hence why fish tend to differ :p

Live and learn I guess. Although it's especially cruel when it involves such lovely critters. Waiting on the nitrite tube to develop.

I had used the melafix on my male to treat fin-rot, and it had great results. I've had him for two years, just a blue pet-store veil tail that my daughter bought with her Christmas money.

Proves how differently something so simple can affect fish. I did have some "dramaqueen" fish.. By that I mean water changes were brutal, forbid I had to medicate... x.x

One more question. How do I go about medicating with the Epsom Salts? Do I need to do it more than once? Do I need to drain water from the tank before I dose her again? I know that Aquarium Salt doesn't evaporate, I'm assuming the Epsom is the same. I'm not going to give up!!

BTW- Nitrites are also fine

Thanks, when I take in an animal I try to do it right. I guess mistakes are made, sometimes with tragic results. I am glad I bought the master test kit, it's comforting to know that you have the correct water parameters. I hope that no other fish are affected; I'd hate to see them go out like that.
She was the crown jewel of the sorority; there is a big old hole in the tank now.

Bettas are seen by too many as throw-away pets, I see it all the time. And that is a shame. There is a HUGE personality in those little colorful fish.

I try not to rescue fish from places like Walmart, because I know that another will just be ordered to take its place.

Again, thanks for your help!

Yup. Walmart will just ship another if a betta is sold or dies. They are retail. I'm aiming to set up a smaller operation and will aim for a brick and mortar fish store which all including bettas will be healthy. My area lacks a LFS. ;)
