Aquarium salt dissolves. just need some hot water and a little time. I stir it with a chopstick too, it speeds up the process.

My Rusty is recovering nicely from a mild case of fin rot. I used a shorter salt bath as I realized i'd made it too strong but he did fine. I used Melafix and while treating with meds the water shouldn't be changed till the bottle tells you to. 7 days most likely and some 10 but read the bottle.

Melafix can't be used full strength for a betta. I have a 2.65 g tank with filter did a full water change and then started the melafix and used 2 drops a day for 7 days. He had 2 salt baths and it stopped the rot and he is healing very nicely. I also add aquarium salt to the tank with each full water change but not with smaller changes.

Your case sounds more advanced than mine and since you are treating with tetracycline every third day is correct. If that doesn't seem to help the low doses of melafix or the correct dose of bettafix for a week and a salt bath or two may be next.

Best of luck to you and your little buddy.
