Stress Coat +

I'm baffled... Will Stress Coat + cause a fasle high ammonia reading?
Tested 5 gal tank = .50 ppm
4 gal water change = .50 ppm..... Say what?
Tested straight tap water = 0 ppm (thank god)
Tested 1 gal water treated with .7 ml Stress Coat + = .50 ppm WTH?

Thoughts?

I don't use Stress+ but based on your post I'd say it looks like its doing something funny with your water.

Could it maybe be reacting with your test chemicals? I don't know what brand you use, but I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that some conditioners and some test kits were incompatible. I use SC+ and have the API liquid tests and haven't noticed any funny readings, but who knows.

I discovered the same this last week when I set up a new tank. My tap water reads at 0ppm for ammonia but when I put in stress coat+ and water into a tank a fish has never lived in the reading came out to be .25ppm using my api liquid test kit.

haha no worries! I thought I was losing my mind too since I could never bring down my ammonia levels, then I realized the stress coat was messing with my results.
