Omg, wth?

Well, today I went to Petco and got 5 neon tetras and 1 albino cory catfish (I know they should be kept in 3s or more, but the didn't have any more). It's about a half hour car-ride.

They were all alive, which was good. I started to float the bag. After two minutes, I saw that one of my neon tetras died. So I flushed him down the toilet. I named him/her Swimmy.

The tetras are all swimming together, except one. He/she is fine, but he's clueless where he is. He thinks no one else is in there, apparently.

The reason I am mad is that when I tried feeding the cory cat, he was starting the food I put on the gravel for him. BUT MY BETTA WAS EATING ALL OF IT!

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FEED THE TETRAS AND CATFISH?

also, what do i do with the one tetra that is 'mentally retarded'?

You could try to feed the betta on the otherside of the tank and while your betta is eating, try feeding you cory. Your cory and tetras may not eat today, as they need to get used to their surroundings. Try feeding your betta tomorrow and then feed your cory and tetras. Maybe try to get the food as close as you can to the cory so he/she can have a better chance ateating. Keep your betta interested in something else. Good Luck!

And with the other tetra, give it time to get used to the tank, and not all schooling fish school. I once had 6 tetras, and 1 or 2 seemed to do what they wanted. Give it time.

First off never feed your fish right when you get them. Put them in the tank and wait 24 hours to feed any fish! You don't know if the petstore just fed them and plus fish need to adjust to a tank when they are put into it.

Secondly give them some time to afjust to their new home My cories were all "I am a solo act b*****s!" the first few days. now all five of them are attached at the hip.

The tetra that was solo died. He got sucked by the filter.

Sorry about the tetras Rachel, like otto's they are very fragile and have a high mortality rate, if they make is a week or two then they are strong and do well.
