How many females should I put in the tank with it? I'm probably going to wait a couple of weeks before I put any in, though, since I still need to get more decorations and I would want to start it when I can watch them closely all day every day. How do I determine which bettas will get along well or not at the store? Or is there no way to tell, besides just going with it?

... Should I start a new topic for these questions?

You can start a new topic if you'd like, but there are already loads of pre-existing threads available for reading on this topic. I have a sorority of nine girls in my 20 gallon npt.

Can sexing be done by showing the betta a mirror? As far as I know, female flaring is less pronounced and their attitude is less agressive towards their reflection.

Sort of. Females can be just as aggressive as males. It depends more on the temperament per fish, not per gender. I have a female who beat the snot out of a male, after having breeding stripes and showing nose down breeding submission to him. So...I don't know if that tells you anything. Haha. Some females are extremely aggressive and show their beards proudly. Most males will have larger beards, though. You typically want to go by ventral shape/length, body shape, and fin length.

That's the tank so far (sorry I couldn't get a better picture, I'm horrible with cameras). I plan to get 1 or 2 more medium/large silk plants (unless you guys think I need more). Also, I don't have an aquarium light, so yeah.

What size is the tank? It looks big enough...I just want to be sure. (: Also, if you can find something to just have float along the top, that would be AWESOME. My girls loveeee their floaters. It doesn't have to be real. (:

It's a 10 gallon tank. I used to have anacharis floating in there, but then I lost my supply of decent sunlight (it's not actually as intense as the picture makes it seem). I might consider getting a large silk plant, removing the base, and just letting the rest float in there, but I'm not sure about how well that would work or if I could just do it with the base...
