Question Questions

So I was reading around and I was wondering why some of you fast your betta. Would feeding them in the morning and at a night be ok? Also how often should i change their water in the one gallon bowls? (still working on getting a five gallon tank lol) Thanks!

The fasting is for their digestion. Bettas are prone to overfeeding and this can make them sick or kill them. The fast day is to help them fully digest what they ate the last couple days and makes them less likely to get sick. Twice a day with one fast day is great. In a one gallon I would guess to change it twice a week, 50% or more I think.

I feed small amount in morning, small amount in evening and fast once a week. The fasting is to give their digestive tract a break and to help aid in prevention of swim bladder disease. In the wild they do not eat every day, so a fast day a week is good for them.

I also fast mine once a week. In a 1 gallon I would change the water twice a week 100%.

Sorry to raid your thread llonka, lol. Just a question, I haven't fasted my bettas yet, so if I started lets say this saturday, would that be fine? I just would like to know if they won't like act all weird if I don't feed them that day, since they always know when to expect their food...

They'll be fine. I felt a little guilty when I first started fasting mine. They may give you a look that says "wheres my food?' but they'll be ok.
