Question ICK!!!!!!

So I woke up this morning to start packing for my trip. I went to go feed Charlie and I noticed on the top of his dorsal fin a small white spot!! I leaving till Sunday and I donít know what I should do? My dad said he would stop by and feed and check on him. It could be some debris from the tank but I donít know for sure and I canít stay here to keep an eye on him. Any suggestions?

How long are you leaving for? I would go buy some ick meds to put in there. You'll only be able to treat him once but at least he'll be in medicated water.

If you have a filter, take the carbon out. Add some medication with malachite green in it. Heat the tank to 81 degrees and leave it there. when you get back resume treatment for 14 days, if it is ich.

Make sure before you start treating though!

Ich runs a cycle. It will usually spend several days on the fish (white dots) then fall off. When it falls off is the only time it can be killed, it is for the most part invincible while on the fish as a white spot. The spot is actually a protective shell that the parasite lives inside of and feeds off the fish.

That is why you medicate for 14 days to make sure you kill it ALL. Salt baths will not kill ich, but they will help the fish stay strong.
