Vacation Feeder crisis

First, some back story: I'm fifteen years old, and my parents are divorced. I finally convinced my mom to let me get a Betta, under one condition: that I would buy an automatic feeder to fed her when I'm at my dad's on Thursdays through Saturdays. Well, I bought one, and it completely malfunctioned. Yes, I know, you all told me so, and I didn't listen. It dumped all this food into the water and completely polluted my tank. Luckily, my mom thought to put my fish back in the cup she came in (did I mention she's a BABY?!) But I don't know what to do going forward. Part of the reason my mom leery me get the fish is that she would not have any responsibility, so I can hardly ask her to feed the fish. I just don't know what to do. Any ideas?

If you feed your betta on Thursday before you go to your dad's house, and Saturday when you get home, your betta should be fine on Friday without food. Many people actually recommend fasting for one day a week because it can prevent bloating.

The fish will be fine without food while you are gone.

No, I leave my mom's house on Wednesday and return on Sunday. So I'm not there at all on Thursday through Saturday...

That's OK. A lot of people have bettas where they work, and only feed them Monday through Friday. In the wild, animals may not eat every day.

I would just feed them Sunday through Wednesday. They'll be OK going three days without food. Being a little hungry won't hurt them. (And it's much better than having a feeder dump too much food in the tank!)

What type of food do you give them? And how much? You may be able to just give them a tiny amount more Sun-Wed, so that they're well fed while you're home.

I give them betta pellets and freeze dried blood worms as treats.

Your Betta will be fine without being fed 3 days. I have a Betta at work who goes 2 days every week without food & has gone a week without being fed because I had a family emergency. Just feed her well, but not over feed, on the days you're home. Feed right before you leave & as soon as you get home.
