Water Testing Kit...

I have a new tank setup (4 days old) I need to get water testing kit. What is the best brand that gives the most accurate reading?

API Master Water Testing Kit. A bit on the expensive side, but it has very accurate readings and it can last you for years.

I use the API Freshwater Master Test Kit. It's a little Pricy around 30 dollars. I got mine at Petsmart for around 28 dollars. but its a good kit it comes with 4 tubes and the testing liquid for Ammonia, Nitrate,Nitrite, PH, and if you need to High PH as well along with the chart. its fairly easy to decipher with the chart what your tank params are. they also have test kits for Reef tanks and Saltwater tanks if you have those as well (: I'm satisfied with the results I get from this kit

This one here is the one I'm currently using:

I found mine on eBay for around $17.00 (which included shipping).

Right now Amazon has the API Master Water Testing kit for 15 dollars :) Not sure about shipping, but if you have Prime, you get free shipping.

Thanks everyone. Since my tank is new I needed something right away to measure the amonia. So that I would know how much water change needed to be done. I did get the API Amonia test kit. We aren't doing to bad on the amonia, measured at 0.25. But I will be doing 25% water change today and then I'm going to check it again later tonight.

I will be taking a look at the Amazon and Ebay. Thanks for the tip. $30 for a test kit is a little pricey for me to be using on a little 10gal tank. But those lower numbers are more attractive.

Elfy and his tank mates say "Thanks a bunch".

Elfy (far right fighting that mean reflection of his) and his tank mates.

OK if someone can answer this question for me.

Yesterday I tested the water in my 10gal (tank is 6 days old) and the ammonia was 0.25. So i did a 25% water change. Today I tested the water and it's at 0.50. Should I do a 50% change today? Is it safe to do water changes back to back. I'm just concerned the ammonia is rising rather than staying steady.

I didn't receive a reply in time and so I decided to do the 50% water change today. After that I tested the water and it's now at 0.25. Should I have done 75% change? I'm still unsure of doing daily changes, is it safe for the fish?
