Question Pet Store Betta Question

When I see female bettas at petsmart, they're bellies are HUGE with eggs!!! They are so plump, but how? I know all females produce eggs especially when you feed them a good meal and conditon them, but i know Petsmart only feeds them pellets. I know they are full of eggs and not bloated, because I bought one, and she and a male spawned and after she was normal and not plump with eggs (she still had an egg spot)

Sometimes when a female sees a male, they can egg up. Its possible for a girl to egg up on just pellets, but that involves a heavy feeding schedule. So its very possible that they are simply constipated.

They may come that way from the distributor. Try usually get fish once a week, so it's possible. Normally the ones we get are juveniles.

I should have explained better. Clearly they don't feed them as regularly as a breeder would to do conditioning.

I was saying that they could be constipated due to the incorrect feeding procedures of common pet stores. I do not mean to cause any sort of offense. I only say this, because they dunk x-amount of pellets in at a time (as much as they can eat in a minute) which is wrong. Bettas eat a max of 8 pellets a day. Also, they are only fed once a day, which is another reason they get fed more...this being said, they tummies are distended from being constipated/super full.

They are not constipated. Like I already said, once the she spawned, MANY eggs came out and she is now normal and not full of eggs.

Yes but the males are on a different rack. The females can't see them at all

I don't understand this question anymore. Are you saying that you spawned her? Or did she just drop eggs? That's not normal, as most females simply absorb their eggs if they don't spawn.
