So, I already started a thread about my plans to get a 10 gallon to split for my 3 boys, and my Aunt helped me along by giving me a walmart gift card for my bday. So, I picked up a 10 gallon today, and some new silk plants, and this is my new tank so far. I'm sure I will need a few more plants and such to shield the dividers, but I didn't want to go overboard shopping.. so that leaves me with a few questions.. what's the best way to cycle a betta tank? just add a fish or 2 and let the cycle begin, or use a fishless method?
Fishless cycle...PLEASE! It is sooooo much easier on the fish. I have fishless cycled a 15 gallon in 10 days and never had a problem with it. Of course, it may take you longer just because each tank is different but it really is the way to go. You don't have to worry about your fish, and it takes considerably less work because you only have to do 1 water change when it's done.
I have to say that your tank looks GREAT! Those are gorgeous plants - I'm jealous :) I love the gravel too...I just went with white in half of my 15 gallon and it really makes dark colored fish pop.
Yeah, I was thinking fishless cycle was the way to go, I will probably do that.. I wouldn't want anything to happen to any of my boys.. I really liked the plants too, I had a whole bunch of other ones all ready in my hand, and then i saw those ones right near the cash register at the pet store and i dropped the ones i had and went with them.. eventually I'm going to get some real caves or something instead of coffee cups, but they'll do for now, tank ornaments are so ridiculously expensive, and the stores i was at today didn't have much selection, so I'll wait until i see some i really like.

Wow, I had no idea those were coffee cups. I didn't see the handles until you mentioned it. I actually think it's really nice.

lol, I was going to hide the handles in the gravel, but i decided if I was going to use cups for caves they might as well look like cups, I think it ads character.
Is cycling tanks bad for bettas? Because my betta dosnt seem to be bothered By the bubbles coming out of the filter, he actually sometimes plays in it. And maybe he just dosnt mind it becuase my filters dont make big currents.
