Live plants.. does anyone have them?

So.. I've never had much of a green thumb, but today I was at my local petstore, looking at bettas.. (of course!) and I ended up with a new guy who was begging me to take him home.. and the guy there was going through the tank of live plants which was pretty well ransacked due to a recent sale, and he picked out 3 plants and said he would throw them if for free if i wanted them, as they were just going to throw them out anyway.. so, now I have a new fish (pics coming soon) and 3 plants that I have no idea what to do with.. anyone have any tips about live plants?

What kind of live plants are they? I have live plants in both my tanks... and I love them. You do need to get some liquid plant fertilizer. I use Kent's Pro-Plant. I also use Flourish Root Tabs which have helped my amazon sword plant tremendously! Depending on what plants you got though depends on how much care you need to give them. I think it is recommended that for every gallon there is at least 1.5 watts of light also. And you need to make sure you give them natural light (whether it be from a CFL bulb or daylight itself).

lol, i don't even know for sure what they are, one of them is bamboo of some sort, and one looks like Red Ammannia, just guessing from pictures online, and the other is green shoots with longish leaves on it, which I can't find a name or any information about.

My plants are from the betta bulbs and I love them. I don't have any fertilizer yet because I'm poor but i'm getting some soon. My Lulu actually chews pieces off to play with (not to eat)- she wouldn't be able to do that with fake plants.

I planted the red one in my 10 gallon which is cycling right now, but the other 2 are hanging out with my new fish in a 1 gallon bowl until i decide what to do with them.

Hmmm... ok. So the Red Ammannia requires high amounts of light & nutrient rich substrates. I think it also requires a lot of CO2. But I've never had that one before...so I'm not sure what to tell you about that. Bamboo's can't be completely submerged in the water (if I remember correctly).

I'm pretty sure you're right about the bamboo, it's only about 6 inches tall, so I'm going to have to find something else to put it in, or get rid of it.. and I'll see how the red thing does in my new tank over the next few weeks while it cycles, and get some CO2 for it.. still haven't figured out what this third thing is, but I have a pic..
