Question Aquarium Salt?

Should aquarium salt be added regularly to the tank as preventive maintenance?

I bought some the other day because of the description about promoting healthy gills etc... I'm just not sure in the world of Betta's if this is something you all do regularly.

I add it as a preventive. I usually add about 1/2 teaspoon per gallon.

Thank you so much for the quick replies! How often do each of you add it?

I just add it when I do water changes. I have 5 one gallon jugs of water that I keep handy at all times. I bought 2 from walmart that had water in them already. Then the other 3 are milk gallons that I cleaned out really well. So I have them set aside each with 1/2 teaspoon aquarium salt and a squirt of conditioner....except for the one that I have set aside thats got a teaspoon of aquarium salt in it, for salt baths.

So I should disolve the salt before adding it? Yes I know you're probably thinking I'm an idiot. LOL!! I'm just so obsessed with my betta's and want to do the very best for them and this is all so new to me.

Yes, just stir it around with a spoon in a little container/bowl with some treated water, and what I do is sort of crush it with the spoon so it dissolves a little faster then pour it into my tank. Just as Doggyhog said, it works wonders!
