Does JFC stain silk plants?

I am treating my new guy Star for fin rot and pop-eye (arrghh!!!) Somebody please explain to me how he got so sick in a 5 gal tank with pristine water conditions (I did 100% water changes two times since I got him and I only had him for 10 days). But that's another story.

I wanted to know if i can treat him in his tank- since he is the only fish in there and the tank is not yet cycled. There is no carbon in the filter. How many doses do you normally do and does the JFC stain the silk plants? I will take them out if so. What do you think?

I have used it for Flapjack's 2.5 gallon,and so far it hasn't stained my silk plants. The instructions say to use 1 tablet/10 gallons, so break the tablet in half and use one piece. If needed, reapply the same dose after 4 days but first do a 25% water change. Hope that helps!

It may stain white plants but colored ones are usually ok. One tip to make sure it doesn't stain is to dissolve the half of the tablet into a cup of water from his aquarium and then pour in to make sure the concentrate doesn't hit the plants directly.

As to how he got sick. I'd say he was probably already sick if you've only had him for 10 days. Different bacteria have different incubation periods so it probably just took this long to show up. I doubt it's anything you did wrong ;)

Thank you Kim. I hope it's not because I got him :( He seemed a bit off initially but I thought it was just stress. Lesson learned I guess. I hope he pulls through but since last night he was hanging out at the top of the tank and has stopped moving. I will check on him again tonight- maybe it's time for stronger meds? Grrrrr I thought his Petco was better but I guess I was wrong.

Just an update: Star is now swimming happily around his tank. The holes in his fins are gone and I'm not sure about the popeye anymore. I'm hoping it was just a scare!!
