Pine tar

I have recently acquired two pieces of driftwood that had floated onto my campsite at the lake after the recent storm. It looked like a piece that had broken off of someones deck and spent a few years wandering aimlessly on the bottom of the lake. I have let it soak in a large clean trash can for about two weeks and have just finished boiling it for two hours ( the palms of my hands are a bit burnt and don't get me started on getting the tar out of my pot) even though it more than likely was a piece of processed pine wood that can be easily found at lowes; do you think after the treatment I gave it it would be safe to place in my tank?

I don't know that I'd trust it. Especially if pressed, there could be all sorts of things besides tar down in little nooks and crannies way inside that would continue to leach out. I don't think it'd be worth the risk vs any benefits (of which would really only be how it looks vs providing positive benefits like tannins for your guy). Just my 2cw.

Yeah I agree I really wouldn't use it. Many timbers especially pine are treated with all sorts of toxic chemicals and wood is very absorbent it really isn't worth the risk.
