Though pie bald may have originally mutated from marble genes (IDK), they are not marble related. Sort of like the BF pattern, only in this case the white fills the head instead of the tail. During the color change process, marbles may show pie bald pattern BUT they are not true pie balds. A true pie bald will not change its pattern - like a BF. IDK know how dominant/recessive it is though.

Interesting. My marble never filled in her face, even after changing color drastically. Does this mean that she's just a freak marble and not a pie-bald?
