I think floating a bag of ice in the tank is better than putting ice cubes directly into the water.

i turned the fan on and pointed it towards the tank the temp gradually dropped to 88 i think it will be ok now it has cooled down to 88 outside and the house temp is droping as well. i really need to get my AC fixed. think god it broke towards the end summer one month and then fall. thank you god I'm really sick of the hot weather. i picked a wonderful time to get my daughter a fish it was a early b-day gift. think god he is a tough little guy if it would been a gold fish he would been dead by now.

I recommend taking the fish out of the tank before dumping in ice cubs. It could put your fish into shock and kill them.

Even put the ice cubs in a zip lock bag and float them in the water, might be better.

I was thinking that the temp one mentioned at the bottom of the page would work to keep the temp down for the short time needed. Could do 1/4 ice 3/4 water in the cooler so that the temp didn't drop to low.
