Filter Question

Hey guys, I'm buying a 30 gallon tank set up from a person on Craigslist today and they have a Marineland Emperor 400 GHP filter that they are throwing in for $25. However the filter is missing the lid on the top...this poses a problem because my cats might get into it but I was wondering if I taped some plastic wrap to the top of it would that be okay? Do I NEED the top of the filter for it work and home the bb? Thanks for any help. Here is the filter:

Marineland sells replacement parts but the lid assembly is of course Out of Stock :(

I'm also thinking this filter might actually be too strong, and its going to be an NPT so I don't even know if it's necessary to have that large of a filter.

I have an AquaClear HOB. that rattles with its top, so I taped a sandwich bag over it. Haven't had any issues. You just need something to keep sponges and media from drying out.

Should be. Another thing I've used before is those plastic cutting board sheets. You can cut to size and tape those down. Maybe but sturdier if kitty gets too curious. Hope it works out for ya. :)

Thank you! I hope it works out too...I am spending waaaay too much money on this sorority tank. If anything goes wrong I might actually go into a coma from depression, lol.
