Preservatives?

Alright, so I will admit that I am a member of the HCA (Hermit Crab Association), since I have five wonderful crabbies of my own at the moment. But one thing us serious crabbers ALWAYS try to avoid in our crabs foods are any "bad" preservatives, such as ethoxyquin and/or copper sulfate. So I was checking out my new beta's food (that came with the betta kit I got), and the food contains ethoxyquin. So my question is this: are preservatives harmful to bettas as well as hermit crabs? Because some things that can happen to hermits that are eating foods containing these preservatives are bad molts, them getting sick, etc. after a period of time. Can the same thing happen to bettas after a set amount of time being fed these foods? The food I am feeding him is this at the moment (but in a sample package size):

Most on here will recommend New Life Spectrum & Omega One as quality foods. I'm not knowledgable about preservatives so can't answer that question.

Preservatives in fish food are necessary or they would become pretty nasty pretty quickly.

This website explains it a bit.
