API Master Test Kit questions..

Hey guys! I'm the type of person who likes to ask a lot of questions. Since yall have been so helpful, I figured I'd as a few more :]

So I picked up an API master test kit the other day, and I had a few questions.

What's the best way to read results? I just held up the tube in the white parts between the color chart in a well lit area.

Is rinsing the tubes out with warm water a good way to clean them? I figured soap was totally out of the question since I know its not good for the fish and could prob skew future results.

Now for the bigger question, what results are best in the tank? What's considered safe for our bettas? What results let you know a tank is cycled? I tried looking up the info on the forum, but I couldn't find it. If I get good answers, then I can put them together in a nice topic for future use (assuming that something like this doesn't already exist, and I just couldn't find it... I'd like to give something back to the forum for all the help I've received).

Thanks!!

A properly cycled tank shows 0.0ppm ammonia. 0.0ppm nitrite and <10 nitrate (but increasing slightly between water changes).

There are several "stickies" on cycling near the top of this section. Below, you'll find "similar threads."

Reading taken under sunlight or tank-light are most accurate.

I found the ones on cycling, but not much on how to make sure you're reading the test results the best way.

If anything now this thread will be here if anyone has the same questions and does a search for them.

Taking accurate readings is an acquired skill. Once you have seen which colors indicate 0.0ppm, you'll always have that reference. The reading for pH is hard to take accurately, but accuracy is not essential.
